As Nigeria’s chartered transport institute, CIoTA advances transport education, regulation, and professional practice through training, research, consultancy, and advocacy. The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) was established in 1988 as a professional body for transport practitioners in Nigeria. The Institute was formally incorporated in 1993 under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAP 59) Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as a Company Limited by Guarantee. In 1999, the Institute was chartered by an Act of the National Assembly (Act 26 of 1999) as the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria. The Act was signed into law by the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 26th May, 1999.
