CIOTA - Examinations and Licensing

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFYING EXAMINATION
AND CERTIFICATION

The institute's professional examination is designed to provide a standard of education from which candidates can both build and develop a worthwhile practical career in transport management and administration AT ALL LEVELS. Below are the four stages of professional qualifying examinations which are held in June and December each year.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Every applicant for registration as student will be required to submit acceptable evidence that he/she has obtained an approved educational qualification. The following educational qualification will be accepted for this purpose.

  • A. FOUNDATION CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION
    1. Five (5) Credit passes in GCE O'Level/SSCE or its equivalents. The subject passed must include English Language and Mathematics, and any other subjects, preferably Economics and Geography
    2. Four (4) Credit passes in GCE O'Level/SSCE or its equivalents will be accepted in the case of Mature Candidates, provided English Language and Mathematics are included in the subjects passed
  • B. PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA EXAMINATION
    1. CIoTA Foundation Certificate Examination/intermediate Certificates of a recognized Professional body
    2. A Recognised/Accredited Diploma in Economics, Geography, Accountancy, Marketing, Business Studies, Travel & Tourism, Freight forwarding e.t.c.
  • C. PROFESSIONAL ADVANCED DIPLOMA EXAMINATION
    1. CIoTA Professional Diploma/Professional Diploma of a recognized body or allied institution
    2. Advanced Diploma, HND, B.Sc, PGD/MBA and other relevant qualifications of equivalent status in Economics, Marketing, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, Law e.t.c., with at least 2 years of working experience.
  • D. PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE DIPLOMA FINAL LEVEL EXAMINATION
    1. CIoTA Professional Advanced Diploma or the final Examination Certificate of a recognized allied bodies in Transport
    2. HND, B.Sc, PGD/M.Sc/MBA from a recognised institution and other relevant qualifications of equivalent status in Transport Studies, Geography, Urban & Regional Planning, Logistics & Supply Chain, Transport Engineering and International Trade with at least 2 years working experience.
  • E. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING

LEVEL ONE

CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION

The Foundation Certificate Examination focuses on the following modules. The courses culminate in a two part of written exams of six modules each. Successful completion of the Foundation Level examination qualifies a candidate to apply for Professional Diploma Qualifying Examination of the institute.

The professional Diploma Examination course culminates in a two part of written exam of six modules each. To sit for the examination, a candidate must have passed, or has been exempted from the Foundation Level Examination. Successful completion of the Professional Diploma examination confers eligibility to apply for Professional Advanced Diploma Qualifying Examination of the institute.

PROFESSIONAL ADVANCED DIPLOMA EXAMINATION

The Professional Advanced Examination consists of eight modules of a single diet written examinations. To sit for the examination, a candidate must have passed, or has been exempted, from both the Foundation and Professional Diploma Examination modules. Successful completion of the professional Advanced Diploma in Transport Management and Administration examination qualifies a candidate for the award of "Associate Membership" of the institute, and confers eligibility to apply for the Professional Graduate Diploma Final Qualifying Examination.

PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE DIPLOMA EXAMINATION

To enrol for the Final Examination of the Professional Graduate Diploma, a candidate must have passed, or has been exempted from all of the Foundation, Professional Diploma and Professional Advanced Diploma Examination modules. The courses consist of eight modules of a single diet written examinations.

To complete the Final Level Qualifying Examination, candidates will also be required to complete a professional research project in transport. The Project is the academic equivalent of a good university first degree project in Nigeria and Overseas.

ELIGIBILITY

Successful completion of the Professional Graduate Diploma Final Stage Examination, with research project and internship qualifies a candidate for the award of "Full Membership" of the institute; and confers eligibility to apply for registration as a Chartered Transportant and to apply for a range of postgraduate programmes at Universities in Nigeria and Overseas.
